Speedometer dont work...

Unfortunately we were out of town when a storm pushed our boat sideways and up on shore. After we rescued it and got it back afloat on a test ride, the speedo didn't read right. Once I had it back on the trailer I noticed a small tube had busted off a plastic fitting on the back of the stern drive. My question is this related? If so where can i purchase this plastic part?

Thanks

Not sure about your set up exactly but it's called a pitot. Easily replaceable if a stand alone unit. Not sure if built in to stern drive.

I would have to guess you mean the stern of the boat, as there are no drives by any manufacturer with a plastic fitting on the back of the sterndrive.

Sounds like your hose broke on the pitot tube.
They look similar to this.

A GPS, either an inexpensive hand-held or a marine unit, is an alternative to the mechanical speedometer. With a GPS you can read MPH accurately even on a very slow troll.

The plastic pitot in the photo above with the plastic hose coming off it sounds like the problem. I have the same thing on my Cruisers, and sure enough, no matter what I do, it comes off. Being such a small dia. hose, makes it tough to get any kind of fastener on it. Zip Tie didn't work for me.

If your rubber tubing is coming off, then there's probably too much upward tension. See if you can create a little slack to put just a small "bend" in the line to actually put a little "downward" pressure on it. If that is not possible...use a drop of super glue at the base of the tube receptor.

There is a tube that goes into a plastic fitting on many of the Mercruisers for the speedometer. A little more info would be helpful. . . a photo would be awesome.
