OK, I am almost ready to launch my boat. Its not perfect, but its a start. The engine is a 3.0L Mercury with a Volvo outdrive. So, I launch it, go out and visit a few of my favorite reefs (natural and artificial) and have put the boat back on the trailer. So when I get back to the house, what should I do? Here is my list, but since I have never done this before, it will be lacking.
  1. Attach hose to pick up hose on side of engine.
  2. Turn on water (Should the engine be running first???)
  3. Start engine and run for five minutes or so.
  4. After the engine is off, I'll disconnect the hose and spray down the deck and outside of the boat. I'll be sure to rinse off anything that has hit salt water.
  5. Pop the top and have a beer to celebrate.
So, what am I missing?

[*]Attach hose to pick up hose on side of engine.
[*]Turn on water (Should the engine be running first???)

Always turn the water on first. You would probably destroy the impeller within 15 seconds if you started the engine first.

[*]Start engine and run for five minutes or so.

Personally, I run mine more than five minutes, at least enough to get everything up to temp. Then I drain the block and manifolds, remove the lower water pump hose and the lower manifold hose. Don't like to leave any more saltwater than necessary.

Yeh, maybe I am anal.
