I cleaned the vst tank and the pump filter screen. Tested the pump with 12v to verify operation. Tested the fuel injectors with 12v and fuel/pressure to examine spray pattern and proper operation. When turning the key to the on position the fuel pressure at the top of the fuel rail goes to about 40 psi. As soon as the pump shuts off the pressure drops all the way to 0 psi. Fast drop to 10 psi then a trickle to 0 psi. Is this normal? While the engine is running the fuel pressure stays at around 40 psi. The engine will start hard and usually shuts off. Shakes a lot while running like its struggling to breath and you can here the intake sucking in air. It increases when you increase the load till it kills itself. Can sometimes raise the rpm to 1000-1200 and fight to keep it running. Long enough to do an injector drop test. They all showed change in rpm and the engine ran more rough when each inj. was dropped. When I first started cracking over the engine for the first time after installing the vst the engine would back fire bad. Then it fired up and stopped the back fire. I pulled the plugs after the inj. drop test and #1 was black and looked sooty. #2 as well but with a little dampness to the plug. #3 and #4 where soaked with fuel. Also wet behind in the passages in the block where the manifold meets up to the block. So I'm thinkin stuck needle assembly causing fuel to pass through hence the lose in pressure and flooding out the cylinders? Is that logical?

Pull the vst vent hose off of your intake manifold and see if you have fuel there you should not. if you do then you have a stuck needle valve. Also I would have your injectors flow tested and have the screens changed in them .

Ok. The whole intake was wet with fuel. The metal intake passages. The black plastic intake passages. Also the power head intake inlets. Where do I send the injectors to?

What causes the spark plug to foul/black?

Could be your needle valve, easy to check, but I suspect injectors need a professional cleaning/recon. Just because fuel sprays from the four holes in the center of the injector doesn't mean it's spraying like it is supposed to or that it is spraying every time. Leaking injector or misfiring injector can cause this. Don't forget to change your oil too.

i dont get it. i changed the needle n valve in the vst. stiill. loosing pressure at the fuel rail. i checked the injectors to make sure they where not leaking. i cant find any fuel leaking from any where. where is my pressure going when the vst pump shuts off?

according to what you have told us "The whole intake was wet with fuel" it is leaking out of the vent.
unless some thing has changed and you did not say what

No nothing has changed but the needle and valve n the vst. Fuel got through the vst to the intake. but its not leaking through the injectors. what about the pressure drop as soon as the pump kicks off. Can the high pressure pump leak fuel n pressure back through itself?

Fuel pressure drop probley caused by the fuel pressure regulator. If fuel coming out of the VST vent hose, there is a problem with the float and needle. You have a manaul?

I replaced the needle and valve and stopped the fuel from leaking. However the plugs are still getting fouled up and two n three cylinders are wet. The intake is not though. The engine is hard to start but once you for it up its a struggle to keep running. I did an injector check and two and three did not change rpm or performance of the engine. One and two however killed the engine when pulled. I'm thinkin its the injectors. However something still tells me that timing or valve clearance could be involved. But I don't know how to check or change either one on this engine.
