engine wont start after warmed up in the water intermittantly

have a 2000 5.7 mercuriser...runs very well almost all of the time...last couple times out started right away off the trailer.boated ,swam several times ,started fine all day.then at the end of the day at dusk after engine is almost cooled off it cranks and wont start..doesnt smell flooded...got towed in twice and both times by the time we reached the ramp it started...any ideas???

do you have a serial number for this unit and is it carbed or fuel injected. when was the last time you have a tune up done

its fuel injected,just purchase last year but have never tuned up since ive had it

Check your battery connections. Must be clean and tight, especially with EFI models. A weak crank won't send correct voltage to the ECM.
