I have a nineteen seventy eight model year Volvo Penta 51 outboard motor on my sailboat, I don't use it often. I needed it the other day, wind died and it was HOT on the lake. Started fine, but the motor ran very hot. My boating partners asked when I last replaced the impeller, I replied that I never had. No water was obser ved coming out. I shut the motor down, sailed the rest of the wa back to the slip. When I went home and checked the owners manual, it says that this motor is air cooled, with a water intake just behind the propeller to force water into a jacket around the cylinder, to be exhausted with the exhaust. I would like to know where the outlet for the exhaust is, I can't see either smoke or water coming out. Any help?
