Starcraft: believe to be a 66???

Just got a boat from a friend for FREE few weeks ago when I first saw it had a hull plate on back I do remember it saying 1966 just not sure of model do know it measures 18ft 6 in about from bow to edge of stern not outdrive.Have been working on it alot floor is removed now cleaned up good just got Gluvit for the hull now just waiting on dry weather so on to the searching for engine am missing carb and few other parts when the past owner cracked the head he tore it apart and lost alot.after seeing alot of rebuilds on here oh boy I am in for alot of time and $$$$ to put into her but will be worth it all I am sure/One question about engine would a newer alfa mercruiser fit? or should I stick with the old 110?

Most likely a Holiday. Nice hull. Head down to the Starcraft section of this web site. We've got a full listing of all the SC resto projects. Check out Starcrafter65's Holiday because I believe he was able to swap in a newer Alpha powertrain.

You are a brave man!! I believe it is a 66. I have one just like it. A unique feature is the split 2 window. Does it have a hatch on the top deck? Also unique of pre 67. Your engine is most likely the 110hp, exactly like the 120s but different carb arrangement. I rebuilt mine from last rivet/bolt. I tried to attach a pic but I have never been lucky at that. As you know, there are numbers on the engine and outdrive that will give you aprox year though you will find it hard getting part until you really nail down what you have.

I would look for a new (used motor) - just bear in mind that you must have a pre 1982 motor to fit on that era outdrive. North Beach put on post 83 motor on a pre 83 drive - but it is very complicated - you can check his thread out for how to do that. I found a whole drive train for about $1200 total - and love the whole thing - I have a 3.0 130 with an Alpha 1 drive....start scouring CL for an old glasser!!! You can check my thread - I basically started with what you have - a hull!!!

Good luck and keep the picks coming and make sure you go the the Starcraft Section where it all Aluminum all the time.

Also - do yourself a favor and find a boneyard of boats - you can get stuff like steering cables, ski locker doors, gauges, gas tanks........

66 have a look at Jasoutside's Islander thread... he bought a cheapo Baja glasser called Thumper and cut out the 4.3 mercruiser motor and drive to put into his Starcraft. He also used heaps of hardware from the junked Baja which was covered in nice stainless pieces. If nothing else it'll inspire you to get going...

Will post some more pictures soon. Just cleaned bottom 2nd time today got hull to drain it was nice.Been looking at transom and I am sure I need to remove and replace have like a two inch spot somewhat rotted where ? stringer meets ? Rained yesterday will have to wait for good days to do Gluvit.And Grzzz yes it does have a hatch in bow love the idea being young but what a pain if your older to crawl under there and over the foot rest? I found under there made of aluminum. Have missed a few bids on ebay for new engine waaah hope to find a engine local would be nice shipping will kill you from half way across country to Maine ha

Yes do LOvE THE FREE!!!!! cant beat that it was either that or the junk yard as scrap what I cant say I did not think about untill I found this site and fell in love with her may take alot of time or should I say will take alot of time to re do on a budget build but I think it will be worth it I AM IN LOVE old starcrafts are the only way to go.....
