I was thinking of buying a 1998 Bayliner Capri 1954 fish and ski, in great condition, everything works, 19' with a Mercury 120 force.I am giving him 3200 for it. Does this sound like a good deal? Thanks for the help guys.

Re: Is this a good deal

I don't know if it is a good deal or not, but Bayliner/Force combinations have a bad name and most people don't want them. Mind you: The boats are not bad and the engines are just as reliable as other brands but they have a bad name.

Research other boat/engine combinations on the auctions, see if perhaps a dealer or a different dealer has one, then subtract 1000 dollars.

Ultimately, if you do buy the boat and do have fun with it for a couple of years, a thousand bucks this way or that really doesn't make that much difference. You will use that in gas easily.

The seller can say "Mercury" all he wants but it's a Force, plain and simple. Parts and service are getting harder to find for those motors. It would not be my first choice. However, $3200 sounds like a fair price if the boat is truly in excellent condition. Just know what you're getting into with the Force motor.
