02 5.0 gl-b stalling??

I have a 2002 5.0 Volvo Penta GL-B (carburated)Recently when i throttle up to take off the motor has missed out but then taken off and ran fine. This past weekend on the take off it sputterd and died. Started right back up and ran fine. Any suggestions or anyone else have this issue in the past?

Have you checked the water seperating fuel filter for water?

No I have not. I always put treatment in with every fill up to avoid the fuel seperation on the 10% ethanol fuel. Should I change the filter to be safe?

You need to replace it yearly. But when you replace it, empty the contents of the old filter into a clear container and see how much if any water is in it. Don't just empty a filter and re-install it, it will have contaminants on the clean side of the filter.

Thank's Will try that this weekend and see what happens. This has only occurred three times and two tanks of gas.

Don, I took the filter off and it did not appear to have any water in the gas when I drained the filter. It did appear to have smoe sediment. Did not get to run the boat with the new filter since the retailer gave me the wrong one. Spent two days on the water and the boat only died once leaving a cove and it started back up and ran fine the rest of the weekend. In two weeks I am returning and will run it with the new filter. Any other suggestions or just wait to see what happens with the new filter? Thanks for the help.

Don, If you are still out there here is the deal. I changed the filter and the boat still did the stall thing with no regular occurance. Cold hot did not matter. had the boat winterized and had the marina do a diagnostic check. No problems found. Any ideas??

Ayuh,.... I ain't Don, but I'm incline to think it's a Carb issue...

How long has it been since the motor's seen a full, 'n complete Tune Up,..?? plugs, cap, testin', etc,...

It takes everything working properly at the same time for it to run right.

You could have crap in your carb from changing filters before without looking what was in them. Water corrodes the carb and plugs up passages. Old spark plugs, cap and rotor will all cause weaker spark. Without proper ignition, what the carb does, even if it's perfect, is worthless. Do a compression test to. Low compression makes carb and ignition worthless too.
