We've got a '07 Crownline 240LS and for some time have had problems with the engine hatch latch. It's a post-style latch, with the post on the seat base and latching mechanism on the hatch. Raising the post to the absolute limit has helped a bit, but still have trouble when in rough water.

Any suggestions other than to simply replace the latch mechanism?

Are you talking about something like a barrel bolt? A pic would help a lot...

Try a couple of washers under the hatch portion of the latch to lower it a bit. Check for wood rot while you're in there, unless this has been a problem since the beginning.

Here is a pic of a similar latch. All fiberglass in this area, so no worries there. As mentioned, the post has been raised high enough that there should be no interference from surrounding 'glass. Seems to be a problem with the latcher itself now.
