1966 60hp stripped plughole

i was given a 1966 60hp evinrude. I found that one of the plug holes where stripped clean of its threads.Have any of you guys tryed a or have even heard of a repair kit for this?

Heli-coil, If you have no experience with them, most machine shops can install them for you.

I bought my own threaded insert at a local auto shop (like harbour freight) and it just screwed right in and worked and was like $15 or so. Or go to a shop.

Heli-coil will work, but I prefer Time-serts, which better duplicate the thermal character of the original alloy holes.

If you really want a shortcut, remove the sealing ring from the spark plug and see if it will screw in. Sometimes the very lowest threads survive. If not, you need to pull the head and tap it for helicoil or solid insert. I like the solid inserts. Put some epoxy on the outer threads to force it to stay in the head.

I have used both heli-coil and time-serts. I agree with JB and would recommend Time-serts.. They have lasted longer for me in the past.

Time-Sert is the very best... FORGET THE HELI COIL spend a couple bucks more for the better unit.. I have used them in aluminum motorcycle heads before with good as new results.

Remember that you'll need to order a head gasket if you're gonna pull the head.
