I am new to boats and motors and just bought a 1960 Johnson 10 hp short shaft motor. I got it running and tried it out Saturday. I didn't know what to expect for power but I think it is low. I have it on my 1952 12 foot sea king boat. I was using a 45 lb thrust trolling motor on the boat and the Johnson 10 hp motor is no faster.

Is this what is to be expected from this motor?

Make sure it is firing on both cylinders. It should be faster than a trolling motor.

Is compression good 95 to 110psi? Good spark and adequate clean fuel to carb?

Thanks, the top cylinder wasn't firing. It was firing here at home when I was running the motor. It was a bad plug wire, looks like a pain to replace the wires!!!
