Boat won't crank in water-Please help! Tournament Tomorrow!!! :(

When my boat is out of the water on a hose...the motor cranks....when I put it in the water.....the motor won't crank...or it is very hard to crank....but if the boat idles...the engine dies.......any suggestions?

no idea about what motor you have , but low compression on any motor has a hard time overcoming the back pressure of the water when you drop it in the water.

Most motor problems end up being fuel related, but it is best to check/test what you can to eliminate the basics.

Lets clarify some terms. Won't CRANK means the starter is NOT spinning the engine. If the starter is spinning the engine but it won't start, that means the engine cranks but won't START. Big difference -- so which situation is it?? Not knowing what engine you have makes it a little tough to offer suggestions.
