1979 evinrude 140 hp inpeller help very needed

hey pals, this forum is great thanks for all the help, i need more i am new to the boating gig, where is the inpeller located on this engine, i have ordered a manual and need some expert advise and any tips on changing it, do u have to drain the lower end lub as well please advise thanks Huck

You don't have to drain the oil out of the lower when you replace the impeller. Pulling the lower is all that is required to access the thermostat housing. The tricky parts is to disconnect the shift rod under the bottom carb. Make sure you loosen all the bolts on the lower unit-there are some that are not readily visible. You can use the exploded parts diagrams, which are helpful when you do maintenance work on the engine. Check Bombardier's website: epc.brp.com. I'd recommend getting an original factory service manual from the original publisher: Ken Cook Co., in Milwaukee. It's the only manual to have when working on that engine.
