1987 40hp johnson skipping at idle

I have a 1987 40hp johnson i bypassed the vro system with a new fuel pump from omc, cleeaned both carbs. Motor run great found seals in foot leaking carried foot to local mechanic and had resealed. installed foot onto motor. now when at idle the motor skips badly but will run good at high rpms?

it might be an airleak somewhere i just replaced the top crank seal on mine because of a lean pop at idle

Is the skip like you turned the key on and off very quickly or is it like a sneeze or spit back ??
