I have "73 65hp johnson outboard. it will not start with the ignition switch but it will start when I jump the soleniod. I have checked the neutral safety switch. I have changed the ignition switch and soleniod.

I am new to owning a boat and I am at a loss on what else to check

Thanks for any help

Is the other small post well grounded? No ground; no start

Re: ignition problem

Make sure you get 12 volts to either SMALL wire on the solenoid when the key is in the start position. If not, you'll have to back track to the ignition switch.
