I just got a call from my marine shop who is performing a winterizing on my boat. The 8hp Honda engine is frozen solid and they can't explain it. I last ran the engine in my driveway with a flusher attached in September and everything was fine. The oil pressure light was on indicating good pressure It idled just fine revved just fine nothing to indicate a failure. The mechanic is stumped because it doesn't have any signs of abuse or neglect.

The engine went out warranty in 07, and the boat has only 400 total hours on it. They are going to pull the cylinders off now to see what the problem is. Has anyone else had a similar issue and what was the solution to this problem? I know about the flywheel TSB and my mechanic is a Honda dealer. Could this be a manufacturing defect?

Re: Honda 8hp Kicker Engine Frozen

The same thing happened to my 2hp 4stroke Honda
It ran great one week and locked up the next
It turned out to be a cracked head the mechanic said.
It was never run out of the water so I have trouble believing that
I traded it in a on new engine.
