I purchased a 1991 johnson 40hp 2 cyl. tiller model that I have tried the Joe Reeves timing method on. All the linkage have been set as per Clymer manual #B733, 91-94 models, pages 258-260. timing calls for 18-20 degree BTC. Which means that timing should be set at 15-16 degrees. Timing marks show 24 degree BTC and motor runs good at this setting but when I retard timing to 16 degree and put boat in water, motor won't start. there is no timing pointer alignment on this motor. Any suggestions? Thank you, Bob

No need to reply to this thread as I got my head out of my a_ _ and came out of the coma my wife said I was in. I adjusted the pickup cam timing and Bingo purrs like a kitten. Timing right on the button. Thanks to Joe Reeves and all who have helped me on other threads. Sincerely, Bob
