I purchased a 1991 johnson 40hp 2 cyl. tiller model that I have tried the Joe Reeves timing method on. All the linkage have been set as per Clymer manual #B733, 91-94 models, pages 258-260. timing calls for 18-20 degree BTC. Which means that timing should be set at 15-16 degrees. Timing marks show 24 degree BTC and motor runs good at this setting but when I retard timing to 16 degree and put boat in water, motor won't start. there is no timing pointer alignment on this motor. Any suggestions? Thank you, Bob
