I have a 1986, 70 HP Evinrude that looses all power after running in gear after10 minutes. The motor starts up cold fine and runs in forward for about 10 minutes and then it just dies. I can restart it again with no problem, but as soon as I put the throttle forward and give it gas the motor just quits. My local mechanic did a tune up, rebuilt the carbs and changed the water pump last week, but when I tried it out today the same problem happened. Does anyone have any suggestions or recomendations. Oftin ignition coils break down when they get hot. has to do with the internal insulation seperating from the heat causing internal shorts. when they cool down all is well till they get hot again. Hope it helps

was tune up done on muffs? I ask because when you engage gear the idle speed maybe dropping too low to run. idle speed needs to be done in water and in gear to get required back pressure on exhaust.

take it back, you paid for it to be fixed, it is not.

Didn't this mechanic give it a good lake/water test when he was done ? You give a mtr back to a customer as if it was your own and want to go fishing the next day. Take it back as TD suggested.
