Bought her for cheap and in the process of restoration. Two questions:

1.) Any idea as to the make? It says, Eagle One, but I can't find a thing about it. Allegedly made about 1986(?).

2.) I've removed all the water soaked foam from the stringers and hull--man was that disgusting. Anyhow, do you think I need to re-foam? I've seen the forums about bottles, and using noodles, and foam product, but really...is it needed for other than if you are swamped? Maybe crazy, but if I have a PFD on I really don't care about the boat and with this little thing, I won't be far from shore.

Thanks!!

Re: What is this?

Have you checked for the hull number? Mine is on the transom, outside, and embossed into the hull.

Not sure when they started to require them or how to decode it but that would be a good start.

Re: What is this?

I will take a closer look, but I haven't seen anything. I have a "VIN" number on the title and the paperwork calls it an Eagle, but I can't find a thing anywhere and I am darn savvy with the internet...if I do say so myself. :rolleyes:

There is a plate on the side that show Piranha Marine, but a search for the company comes up with zip. If it is a 1986, the company could be long gone but one would think there'd be another owner out on the great expanse of the internet...someplace.

Thanks for the tip and I'll keep looking.

Well Tashasdaddy, I can agree...somewhat. Being an avid car restorer, knowing detail about the history of a vehicle is sort of a habit. I agree on the get on with it and enjoying however. ;-)

Who are you talking to? There's some good advice in your words, but I didn't ask for it. Perhaps you posted in the wrong place?

The VIN number on your title is the hull # you need to find out who & when your boat was made.

I beleave your boat was built by racing legend Noah Legear in Panama City, FL

I agree with sasto. The "PIR" MIC is registered to Noah and according to his bio on his site:

"... as well as becoming involved in manufacturing a line of pleasure boats that sold through a 66 dealer network until 1989. In late 1989 he dropped out of the retail business to pursue his racing interest and formed Eagle One Performance Products Inc. to manufacture high performance boats, engines, and accessories for the hot boat enthusiast."

He is still in business.

Yup! It's PIR so it looks like an original Noah Legear Eagle One. Thanks for the tips.

foam.jpg

Let's see if the photo works....

I am at the stage where I will be foaming my little boat. I was thinking of two additional areas... the gunnels and/or sides as shown in the (red circle) photo. With the gunnels, I could flip the boat and pour the foam allowing it to settle naturally. With the sides, I would have to fabricate panels and such in order to pour into. At the moment, the entire back cap is removed for access and restoration so 3/4's of the boat is exposed.

So, what are your thoughts? Should I simply foam the stringer runs (original config) and be done with it? Or would more foam be a good (or bad) idea.

Thanks

Re: What is this?

If you want to go to the trouble, here's a calculation formula

H-8.7.2 Calculations - Basic Flotation
H-8.7.2.1 Perform the following steps to calculate the volume of flotation material required to support the swamped boat (Fb), the submerged propulsion equipment (Fp), the persons capacity (Fc1), and the dead weight (Fc2).
H-8.7.2.1.1 Step 1: Determine the flotation needed to support the swamped boat (Fb).
Formula: Fb = (Wh x K1 + Wd x K2 + .69 We) ? B
Where
Wh = dry weight of hull, i.e., everything below swamped water line
Wd = dry weight of deck and superstructure
We = dry weight of factory installed equipment, hardware, and accessories
K1 and K2 = conversion factors for materials used from Table I (See Note 1.)
B = buoyancy of flotation material in pounds per cubic foot

EXAMPLE
Calculate the flotation material needed to support the swamped boat (Fb).
Assume
Wh = weight of hull (fiberglass) = 600 lbs.
Wd = weight of deck and superstructure (plywood) = 120 lbs.
We = weight of equipment, hardware and accessories = 50 lbs.
Fb = ((Wh x K1) + (Wd x K2) + (0.69 x 50)) ? B
Fb =((600x0.33)+ (120x-0.81) + 0.69x50)) ? 60.4*
Fb = (198 - 97.2 + 34.5) ? 60.4
Fb = 135.3 ? 60.4
Fb = 2.24 cu. ft.
*The figure for a two pound flotation material.

Re: What is this?

Thanks Wood!

It's not a matter of understanding the minimum requirements or the manufacturer's original specs--just put back whatcha took out. I was just determining the benefit of adding foam to gunnels and sides. Granted, flotation would (presumably) improve if ever needed (let's hope not) and perhaps sound would absorb a bit more, but is it really needed in that I would assume the weight to speed calculation would be effected.

Re: What is this?

The foam serves two purposes. In some cases it is structural but it always serves as floatation to keep the boat off the bottom of the lake. It can also provide sound deafening too. Adding the foam to the sides of the hull will prolly do all of these but to what benefit for the added weight??? I have'nt a clue. right now I see none.
