I have a 1988 Mercury BlackMax V6 200hp motor. I am having a problem with getting it to run right. It will only crank when the motor is trimmed down. If the motor is idling and you trim it up it will go dead. When you get it into the water it will idle around when the prop is engaged but when you throttle it to get it onto plane it bogs out. I am not a mechanic by any means, but I thought someone might could give me some insight on what could be wrong with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you have some trash in your carbs or bad fuel lines. Make sure all of them are soft and pliable with no cracks. Especially the primer bulb. Motors are not suppose to run when tilted up. There is a mercury switch to prevent it.

Thanks...I was thinking that it could be in the carbs. What is the easiest way to clean the carbs out? Is it very complicated?
