I replaced the dead Mercruiser 5.7l with an aftermarket long block. The engine is running and I have set the timing . All of this was accomplished on the trailer with the muffs.
The engine has about 1/2 hour total run time all at varying RMP all less than 1500RPM.
The next step is to float test at the boat ramp for another 1/2 hr or so at more varying RPM all less than 2000.
I have been using the following scheme:
Idle
1000
1300
1500
idle
repeat for about 10min.
I then find something wrong and have to fix the problem (bad alternator, no indicated temp, no indicated oil pressure)
The new engine manual calls for the 2-5 hr period to be run at less than 3000RPM and varying speeds.
Is there a sticky/web site etc that goes into better detail on engine break in?
I plan on babying the engine until 5 hrs then up to 4000RPM until 10 hrs.
Ideas?
Thoughts?
Or did just open the flood gates like the oil type threads?
Thanks,
Steve
