You guys probably all know this but it took a boat shop to advise my pea brain. The ol' gal had an ammeter and no voltmeter in the dash so I asked them how much trouble it would be to change it out. They told me it's a good idea to get rid of the ammeter. If perchance it would fail you can't start the engine because they're wired in series. And with my luck? You can guess what's in my dash now.

Re: Replace Ammeter with Voltmeter

Good question. I was curious if all ammeters are similar to mine so I placed a call to my boat mechanic. He advised that all ammeters are subject to the same problem. He advised removing the two large wires and connecting them together.
My take is that if you like it the way it is just be prepared to do this on the water if your ammeter takes a hike. Maybe try the remedy at home first for insurance?

Volt meter is a better option, it will tell you if you are putting out the right voltage. I got rid of my amp meter right away and install a volt meter.
