hey all,

have a 888 ford 302 in a '74 glastron. took itout of the water 2 yrs ago for overheating... replaced the lower unit impeller. started it last week with the muffs...water definitely circulating (found the always missing drain plug thatway) anyway... #@$#@$@# thing temped to 125...200 ...250..and i shut it down. umm opened the hoses...pumped garden hose water thru them...seemed ok...even opened up the engine driven waterpump..inspected it..a little bit of rust here n there...but no damage.....and some rubber from the old lower unit impeller.

looking at some of the other suggestions... whats the deal with the thermostats? can they create overheating issues?

Re: merc 888 overheat troubleshoot

Therms that are stuck closed will make it overheat. replace it and try again.
