I am wondering where to start solving the problem of poor fuel consumption. I am using 12gallons per hour in a fully loaded 17ft stratus bass boat at 8/10 throttle.

fuel consumption on an out board is considered 1 gallon per hour for every 10 Horsepower, at wide open throttle.

as said you are going good, could be 15 gallons.

Slow down to just over planing speed and your fuel consumption will drop.

It will also get a little better by going to WOT then backing down to 8/10 throttle. Instead of going from idle to 8/10ths go from idle to WOT then to 8/10ths.The reason is because it will run a bit leaner in the second scenario.

And... I would call that excellent fuel consumption. Seems like it's doing a great job of sucking it down :) I've got twins I cant pour it out of a jug as fast as they will gobble it up!

Um....not clear on the logic here.

There is a term for it... it's escaping me. Maybe someone else will chime in.

The idea is that if you run WOT and back off the throttle for the same RPM setting the carbs will run a bit leaner. Not sure if its the timing advance or the butterfly position but it is supposed to improve economy. I have a twinscan fuel flow meter and it may make a very slight difference. At 15-20 GPH the difference is irrelivant.

the old term for it is "cruise control" (before cruise on cars).

the timing stays advanced, and the fuel flow is lessened.

you go to wot throttle, then just bump back a little, you will hear a slight difference in the motor, and only loose 1-2 miles per hour. it does work.
