Im trying to replace the bellows on my alpha 1 leg, and need some advice.
I can?t seem to find a torx bit the right size to remove the bell housing!
The size is between T60 and T70 and as I cant find anyone who sells a T65 torx bit im assuming it?s a specialist tool for mercruiser.
Don?t worry im not looking to borrow tools!
But can anyone tell me where is the best place to get such a beastie?
Or am I going about this all wrong!
This is my first boat with an inboard and it?s all new to me.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Alpha one drive help.

Or you can go to NAPA and order the Hinge Pin Tool 18-9861 which works on both MC and Cobra.

OK and that would be 1/2 inch American not British standard or Wentworth.
You blokes have some weird wrenches over there.

Red (high strength) locktite is factory, so heat is indicated.

Re: Alpha one drive help.

Use a 13mm allenwrench in the new math. On this side of the pond we forget the rest of the world uses the meteric system.

As stated, apply some heat with a propane torch to the bell housing where the hinge pins thread in to it. do a little at a time alternating sides to allow the heat to penetrate the metal. Then just instert the tool and pop them out. use a large wrench to turn them (the bigger the better). Once they start moving they should come right out.

The Mercruiser tool isn't much $, and it fits really tight. No stripped fixture. I put a 1/2" drive breaker to it with a socket and off they come, no heat. When you reinstall use locktite and go 90 ft/lb.
