Went out to the garage to get Subie and go for medicine (seems I need a lot more of that than food these days).

Battery stone dead. Tailgate hadn't completely latched last time I unloaded groceries. Tailgate light had been on for 3 days.

Oh, well. That's why I keep two battery chargers and 2 spare batteries in the garage.

Hook up charger #1. ZAPPO!! she is really broke inside. Smoke curls prettily in the sunlight coming in the window.

Hook up charger #2. Nothing. #2 has expired also. Oh well, they are both over 30 years old. Guess I need a new one.

Drag out emergency spare battery #1. Ummmm. . .jumper cables?? in the locked rear of the car. Might as well put a meter on her anyway. DEAD.

By now sweat is dripping into my eyes. I am too old for this ratzakratz. I will take a shower and call Subaru Roadside Service that I got included when I leased Subie.

SRS says they will call as soon as they have a service call scheduled.

There is no water for a shower. I call our water coop. They are fixing a problem. It will be a few hours.

A computer calls to tell me that Roadside Assistance will be here in about 3 hours to jump my car.:mad:

I call SRS and snarl. They will call me back. . .someday.

Anyone got a shoulder I can cry on??

Ihre haupt haute peck! Translate from German...... You have bad luck today!

I am sure Subie service will fix you up.;)

Hmmmm Toyota has circuit protection that cut's off the power if that happens after 30 minutes so the battery will not die! :p

It has now been 5 hours since I called for help. Lots of promises, no help.

Water is back on, so I got my shower. :)

That's pretty much standard fare today.

Sorry JB about the day. You're not exactly "around the corner".

Hope all is well now.

JB you could always call the Police, they are there to Serve and Protect.

Getting a jump start should be part of the "Serve" part of their motto.
Wouldn't it?

I see only one possible solution, COLD BEER! :D

JB has much more refined tastes ........ more along the lines of a good single malt sipping drink!

Glad you are not stranded out on a road waiting for these people! Someone suggested calling a neighbor...... what about using your tractor to jump it off? Got Cables???

Battery Rundown Protection, standard equipment on GMs for years now, sounds pretty nice, doesn't it?

JB ......Don't you miss the days when you used a hand crank at the front of your T-model?

Re: Whine, whine. Poor me!!

Guy finally came at about 1900. Got Subie started. Got my meds, and a new charger and a spare set of jumper cables.

Gonna write to Subaru and suggest:
*Battery rundown prevention.
*Some mechanical way to open the hatch when there is no voltage to operate the electric latch. My jumper cables were in the storage locker.
*Revise the Roadside Assistance Program to deal with needs in rural areas.

I didn't need to hand crank my T Model. I always parked her on a hill.

Gave up cigars 14 months ago and was out of single malt. :(

Thanks for the moral support, amigos. All is okay today.

Yeah I am really surprised that a new Subie doesn't have run down protection. Especially since '98 Cavalier I had did! Hope you got it all squared away.
