it has the ddis ignition system which is proving extremely hard to source in the uk so i will have to import parts from the us so i need to get the right parts hence i need to know if it is an l or lx.

Hi, You are looking at the wrong part numbers for youe engine.

Going by your engine serial number and going by Mercruisers service bulletin number (95-11) the correct part number for your engine control module is (18811T).

The part numbers (18811t1 for the l and 18811t2 for the lx) that you are looking up are for engine serial number OC856559 and above.

Your engine serial number is below OC856558 So that makes your engine a 3.0L, And that makes your engine control module, part number (18811t).

Your engine specs are as follows,

(1) module advance: 26 degrees.
(2) initial timing: 8 degrees.
(3) total advance timing: 34 degrees @ 2600RPM's

Here is a link to your service bulletin, Yours is the second page down, Then read the next three pages down.;)

thanks very much for your help i managed to track down a control box but its for a lx motor unfortunately so i guess my best bet is to throw the ddis system and fit a distibutor and coil from an 87 3.0 i have been offered so i can get my boat back in the water :)
thanks mick
