Hi I'm newly registered but a long time lurker. I need some input and ideas for a boat I just picked up. It is a very neglected 1989 Sea Ray 210 BR with A Mercruiser 350 (260hp) and Alpha 1. The engine is froze cracked on the block and the head. It only had 119 hrs on the meter. I was very skeptical of this for being a twenty one year old boat. But when I pulled the engine and tore into it, it was very typical of and engine with that low of hours. And it matches the numbers on the original paper work. I have a replacement for it already.

The interior aft of the cockpit is shot. because the cover was torn right in between the wind shield because they left it open. Parts of the floor is rotten in some spots. Right behind the bow walk thru and the piece in the bottom of the ski storage. Can I replace the rotten sections or should I do the whole floor? I want to replace the carpet with something else. What other options would you go with?

The transom and all the stringers are solid. The gel coal is in new condition but the paint near the cap is heavily oxidized. Can I use some sort of rubbing compound and water to bring it back?

I am the third owner and the boat hasn't been on the water for two years. The second owner is a friend of mine and he got the boat with 89 hrs on it and used it for two seasons then didn't winterize it. It is my third boat and first I\O. What would you check the out-drive for?

I picked it up for $500, boat and trailer. I'm having the upholstery redone and getting a quality cover made. Is sunbrella material the best there is or is there something better?

Thanks in advance for the advise. This is a great forum with very helpful members with a wealth of knowledge. I'll post some pictures if anyone would like to see.

Having a replacement is good ;)

You can cut out the deck to the strong part providing the stringers and transom is good (how's the foam??) and the deck can be coated with Durabak or painted with a non slip paint.

Yes rubbing compound will work but not by hand alone.....you need a polisher..... I would prioritize that as the last job ;)

Bellows integrity, impellar and gear lube change

YOU STOLE IT  considering the outdrive and the trailer alone are worth 3x that amount of money...... IMO Sunbrella is the best...... once again highest priority is the powerplant and outdrive ....and a solid deck to stand on....then the pretty stuff.

Thanks for the replies and welcomes. I will plan on getting her sound before making her shine. I thought it was a heck of a deal to. Too good to pass up.

The foam is in good shape. All of the water damage is down the middle. Is the bellows the seal for the out-drive thru the transom?

Durabak is one of the floor coverings I am looking at. Nautolex vinyl flooring is a another. What other paint on non slip options is there?

Re: Howdy! Newbie here

More during. I ended going with Gaco Deck on the floor. It is super easy on bare feet and doesnt get overly hot. So far I am happy with my choice. I replaced the hole floor down the middle.

Finally a few after pictures.* I changed the main color from white to a light tan. Also went with a single helm seat instead of two loungers.

Re: Howdy! Newbie here

On the pic of your doghouse, I can see a hinge on the floor. How much of it hinges, and what of the rest of it??

I've been toying around with the idea of redesigning that area to make it more of a platform for sunning, so I've been brainstorming different ideas on how to house the engine while maintaining or increasing usability.

Re: Howdy! Newbie here

ftl900,

The dog house hinges all the way over and will lay flat on the floor. Or it will come completely out for complete access to the engine.

Hope that helps. I can post a picture if needed.
