hello,
i have a 2007 optimax 115hp; it recently (or at least my brother and i just now seemed to notice) seems to smoke a bit more, especially when cold. the smoke isn't always there and the motor seems to run fine. when it does smoke, it's not like it's billowing, just like exhaust and then eventually subsides and when i accelerate, we don't notice smoke, maybe it's dissipating but we don't see it as we're cruising. a friend who ran a boat dealership says it could just be bad or old gas or gummy buildup. he gave me some mercury power tune cleaner but said i should find out if it's ok to use in the optimax engines.
on another note, i notice my trim gauge now shows all the way up, even when the motor is not trimmed. is it easy to change out the sending unit?

oh, and this is on a tracker targa 185 boat.
any help/insight is appreciated. i'm mostly concerned about the smoke. like i said, it's not all the time.
thanx!!!!

Re: 115 Optimax 2007

I have a 07 200hp opti. I don't have much experience with this motor as it has low hours on it. I'm not sure about the power tune cleaner but the optimax manual says to run quickleen in the fuel. I've heard it's nothing more than a typical fuel injector cleaner. I've put some in every other tank or so just for good measure.

Don't know what to tell you on the smoke as mine rarely smokes. The only time I see it puff a little smoke is if I goose the throttle at a low speed and come off it really quick.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge will point you in the right direction.
