Question? 2000 model Johnson 225 H.O..... 20" shaft
I am reinstalling a re-built "lightning" lower unit and when I get the lower unit up to the midsection to bolt up, there is about a 1/8th, to 1/4 " gap between the lower unit and mid section. If I push up , It will go together, but just wanted to make sure it is ok before I torque it tight. Is there supposed to be some pre-load on the pinion shaft and thats what this is, or do I have a problem else where?? ( Don't want to put pressure on pinion bearings or race if it doesn't require it.
Thanks

if it will push up, bolt it. make sure the water tube grommet is not distorting.

Make sure it is a 92 or newer gearcase as driveshaft is different lenght. It should just slide into place with NO preload on driveshaft. Make sure you do not leave out the exhaust hsg and seal. Also if its a older unit make sure the cooling passage has been drilled as lack of water flow will melt the rubber hub in prop.
