Well for starters it's NOT a 2 stroke. To know what size you are going to have to give a little bit more information. Serial number and application. OMC, Mercrusier, etc.

2.3 or 2.5 could be volvoP. The era is about right. If it is a 2.5VP, it should be a twin cam (obvious by a wider rocker cover and twin rubber band pulleys).

It could be a Volvo (Volvo 2.3), Omc (Ford 2.3) (GM 120), Mercruiser (GM 120) Mercury/Force (2 stroke 4 cylinder but not a 2.3 or 2.5)

Like Jason said, the only wat to is with pictures.

yes it definately is two stroke. Just a head/sparkplugs on top of pistons no valves or anything. looks like an outboard motor but just in a stern drive configuration. Sorry no pics yet. I looked up the L drive that some people warned about and i think that is it. Dare i ask were to get parts!? lol

Okay guess i should have checked my email first... I just got my response back from bayliner, they ran the vin and it is The Force 120 L Drive 4 cyl 2 stroke. So now that i know what engine i just need to find parts... Sugestions? Also are these such horrible boats i have found nothing but compaints on here. My parents have owned this boat since 89 and then i bought it from them. But we havent had any problems till now and thats becuase I let some friends borrow it and they ran it out of two stoke oil and locked it all up....

Search for Force outboard 120. The powerhead is the same. Also look in the Chrysler/Force outboard forum section. My best guess is that you will have the most luck finding a used outboard and switching the powerhead.

Going to move this over to the Force forum dlhutch822, you will have 2stroke info there, not here.

Good luck with your boat, and don't lend it out to anyone.

Come on guys! I've got a 1992 Maxum 2100LDC with a 120hp L-drive. Follow these steps.....Just get a Clymer manual, a good expensive set of tools and spend most every week night doing maintenance and it will run forever! Look on E-bay for the parts that you need. Someone has a dreaded L-drive that they are parting out! GOOD LUCK! By the way.......anyone wanna buy a Maxum? Running great ...right now! LOL
