2005 Honda 8 hp knocking

I have a 2005 Honda 8 horsepower w/ electric start. Less than 30 hours approx. run time. Has a knocking noise at any speed other than idle, any clues? Since this engine has fuel injection does it have a knock sensor? Motor has performed great in the past but also shakes at idle. I removed the pull start cover looking for the source of the noise and noticed small flecks of black paint and noticed that the underneath of the magnets in the flywheel have been scratched all the way around. Any hints before I tear it apart, I can supply a video of it running or pictures of the magnets.

This is not a fuel injected engine and that knock or rattle may well be coming from the rope starter.If the starter cable or lock out mechanism become sluggish they will cause the starter pawls to bounce off the flywheel cogs creating a plastic sounding rattle.

You are correct on the fuel injection don't know what I was thinking. I took off the plastic pull start cover and continued to have the same noise. Thanks for the reply, Thad

These are generally very quiet,and troublefree engines.If you are hearing unusual noises and notice metal flake around the flywheel it is certainly cause for concern.Since you are an electric start,you will have a more upgraded charging system than the rope start cousins.That means that that charging system needs to have adequate connection to a battery at all times or it will overheat and fry the stator under the flywheel.Flywheel magnets can also break free of thier bonding but this is ussually evident with runnabilty problems and very rare.
