I've just winterized the boat a couple weeks ago with clean oil throughout engine & drive. I'm thinking this winter would be a good time to change the impeller since I have no idea when it was last done (if ever). The outdrive is an OMC Stringer 400 & I'm wondering if I'll have to drain the gear lube to change the impeller of it the gear housings remain sealed during the process? Not a huge deal either way, but it'd be nice not to have to waste the clean lube that's in there now.

yeah, you gotta drain it. I had to do the same thing early in the season. waste of new gear lube but it had to be done.

Just the upper gear case or both upper & lower?
