Evinrude 25hp starting problems

Hi All,

Im having problems starting a 25hp Evinrude, im not sure of year but the serial number is B015234.

The engine, which i'm looking at for a friend of my dads, has been stood for a while, so he's asked me to look at it for him. I connected the fuel up, and after a quick ckeck over, and spray with WD40, after quite a few pulls, she started. Then after about 5 or 6 seconds it cuts out, it does this with the throttle in all positions, i've tried starting it then gunning the throttle but it always cuts out.

Good news is theres water coming out of the tell tale, and the gear lube looks good!!!.

Any help or comments would be much appreciated

First, go to the 'Top Secret' sticky at the top of this page. Most likely, you will have to clean and rebuild the carb, which is very simple. The ignition system could also have problems. Even if it's pumping water, I would put a new impeller in before heading out. They dry out and crack from sitting.
