HI. I'm new to this forum. I have a 1982 evinrude 15 hp 2 stroke motor that right now runs only when the choke lever is pulled out, when you push it in it kills right away. I was looking at at the carb breakdown diagram in the evinrude manual, I was wondering if the orifice above the float is plugged and keeping the choke lever all the way out is essentially rerouting the fuel from the float area through the carb as there is some fuel comming from the throat of the carb. with that orifice plugged the float cant work. does this sound right? Could be, but most likely the jets are plugged, it doesn't make much difference though, it needs to be thoroughly cleaned and then it will work corretly.

For what it's worth I would put a carb. kit in it after you clean it spotlessly. Best of luck. Rick.

Thanks for all the replies. I kinda thought a good cleaning was also in order.
