It idols and goes into gear with the muffs on. When in water it idols but stalls when put into gear or push the warm up lever down to fast.
however, after several attepts and different techniques it went into gear and ran perfect. I turned the boat off in the middle of the lake and had the same stalling problem. after several attempts and different techniques i got it to get us back to the dock. It went into reverse with out stalling a couple of times. im thinking low idol. it didnt sound as loud as it did last summer in nuetral. Any suggestions? thanks!

What is your idle now? Ideally you would like to be about 650 - 750 rpm in gear in the water. That will probably be about 1100 on muffsin neutral. Your low speed jets may also be clogged and if so you would need to rebuild your carbs.

thanks for replying. I dont have a tachometer to check my idol. is there a way to see if my carb's are clogged with out tearing into it? is it hard to rebuild a carb?

Carbs are easy to rebuild although you will need to buy two kits to put them back together. Look for a sticky at the top of the forums that goes into detail on rebuilding them.

i agree with you low idle speed, adjust you idle speed stop screw and try it. it must be fine tune in the water and in gear.
