If the carbs are really gummed up and any of the three removable screws don't come out easily soak them overnight in parts cleaner to free them up, and for sure the brass float seal that you will get in your rebuild kit. Thats one you don't want to strip out slot. Steel ones would be a lot harder to mess up.

One thing you need to know if you do soak before disassembly, any rubber or plastic o-rings or seals may disinagrate so you had better have a complete rebuild kit ready. Maybe you should only use ahead of time if it's a case of stripping slot or not removing at all.
