help plz dont know the year of my outboard and it wont stay running

well i have 2 questions
1st my engine dosent have a plate with the model number on it
so i can determin the year
its a (johnson seahorse 6hp 2 stroke, short shaft)

all i can see on engine is these numbers (co547204)
and (3127 14)
and (38018)


2nd my engine starts after about 10 pulls and then raves ok
but when i let the accelarator go it just knocks off

any help would be great guys

Well do you know what make your outbaord is? It's pretty tough to tell without that information. Also, it sounds like you probably have a fuel or carburetor issue. Could be a dirty carb, or it may need to be rebuilt. Not getting the proper ammount of fuel can cause it to die off when idling.

Are you illiterate or what? I had such a hard time reading your words that I forgot what your question was, actually i didn't even read a question, although I did manage to comprehend two statements.
1- takes ten pulls, then raves and knocks off.
2- you don't know what engine you have.

Sounds like a fuel issue, you are starting the engine in a barrel of water aren't you?

when i get the engine running it misses. i checked and cleaned carbaratour
still the same. would the wrong type of spark plug cause this problem with the engine

engine is in yard i will post photos 2morrow
but in the mean time ill see if i can find something on the net that is similer to it guys

I have a 4 hp Johnson just like that one. Mine is a 1966 model. Looks just like it, I would guess if it isn't that year, it's very close. Good motors, very simply built (due to size). That one has a fuel pump on the side of the motor, troubleshoot it and make sure it is pumping fuel correctly. Also, check to see that the fuel filter is clean.. Also, is the gas line from the tank you are using in good condition? Primer bulb ok?

hello guys i cant seem to get the photo up as it says it exceeds the size

ive had another goodlook at it today and it says sea horse on it
and also i got this number off the engine 38018 if it can help to determine the year of this .

my father told me that he thinks 1 of the spark plugs isnt sparking
and he tried new 1s and it was the same only 1 of them sparks

can no one help me with this
i really need to know the year of my engine so i can buy
a new ignition coil to see if it is the problem with my engine
