Guys,

I have a 25hp mercury tracker on the back of my pontoon boat. I use it one a month as it sits at my cabin. When I go there I have a problem getting it to start. I unplug the fuel line to the motor before i leave to go home because the mechanic says it may vapor lock by leaving it in but no luck with that. Still won't let fuel into the carb. I have bought a new gas tank and fuel supply line. I have checked for debri in the line. I have pulled the the cap off the intake area and it is clean.

Pull the full filter off and squeeze the bulb and gas flows freely.

Shoot gas in the carb it runs until gas is gone.

Squeeze the bulb and it gets hard as a rock. If i put all of my weight on the bulb no gas goes into the motor. If I stand it the bulb all of a sudden a psssss sound happens and gas gets to the carb. Starts right up. Sometimes that does not even work.

I have taken it to two different mechanics and of course by the time it gets there everything runs fine. Take it back to the cabin and the same thing happens again. Any ideas?

thanks
Justin

Sounds like more of a connection fitting gone bad. You might try a new motor hose to motor fitting. I would Carefully (very carefully) remove the fuel line inside the motor and check that fuel is going through both sides of that connector. Rust, gasket O ring dislocation, slight mismatch of plug, or similar plugging. I had one new male fitting that was bad from the box.

Also, just thought -- there are two small inlet, outlet valves in the fuel pump, any chance you may have recently rebuilt the pump, or changed anything there ???

Good luck, Cal
