Default Priming over bare aluminum/paint patchwork

I have a 20 year old 14' aluminum jon boat that was recently given to me. It's bare aluminum on the outside, and painted gray on the inside. Although the boat sat out in the elements for years, the paint's in pretty good shape. No leaks, either. Something possessed me to want to strip the rivets and seams (as well as some rust-stained and bad spots) to apply Gluvit. I want to paint the boat for duck hunting, too.

I started to wire brush the seams and rivets, then started using chemical stripper. Well, the stripper is a PIA with which to work, and seems to make more work than it saves. Call me lazy or impatient, but I do not want to finish taking all the paint off. So now the inside of the boat is a patchwork of bare metal and existing sound paint. I have some zinc chromate primer, which is intended for use on bare metal.

Does anyone know if the zinc chromate will stick to the existing paint (as well as the bare spots), or am I asking for a big mess? I'm inclined to just apply Gluvit to the whole inside, then paint over that.

Wipe the metal down with vinegar and water...... this helps pickle the metal.

Apply the gluvit. When the gluvit dries you need to scuff it a bit and prime all the bare metal with zinc chromate...... then paint as you want.

Yes that primer will stick to the paint and the bare metal, no worries.

I would personally use the primer before I put anything on it, it is acid etching and actually eats into the metal then anything you put over that will stick for sure.
