overheating at low speed

i have a 2003 125hp mercury that overheats when i slow troll. the heating alarm comes on until i increase speed to a much faster one. Is this something that i can repair with average mechanical experience? what is the problem?:(:

When was the last time the impeller was replaced? (Water Pump)

I would agree, it sounds like the impeller needs replaced. May not be pumping enough water at low speed.

However, you may get better responses over in the appropriate outboard motor section. Lots of knowledgeable people in that area that can give you a good idea how hard of a job it will be.
