Can someone please help me with the water pump impeller part number for a Mercury "Classic Fifty"?? The engine is a 1987 or 1988 (not sure which), and the serial number is 0B113684.

I bought a 18-3007 impeller as a replacement to OEM 47-8993, but it is too large to fit into the housing. The part number on the housing 46-77821. I am very confused .... any help would be appreciated.

OEM is 47-89983 and Sierra is 183007 so you have the right one. You must turn the driveshaft clockwise while pushing on the housing so the impeller bend in the right direction.

Oh, I see .... how does the impeller rotate then if it is that tight to the housing and not connected to the drive shaft?

OK, so I just read that there is a "key" that locks the impeller to the driveshaft (this makes much more sense). What key part number goes with this water pump??

The key is 28-56662. Did you loose it?

Maybe ... I did not notice any key when I dis-assembled the lower unit, and it is no where to be found.

It makes a lot more sense now ... thanks for the help!
