Motor stops running

I have a 1971 20Hp Johnson. It will run for about 20mins than stop. When I try to restart it just turns over. So I pulled out the spark plugs and turned it over and not getting any spark. Now I can do the same thing the next day. I already put in a new water pump and when it is runing I got good water coming out.

if the coils are going bad they will break down once they get warm. I would look to that.

freddyray21, is there a way to check the coils.

freddyray21, Ok I put in 2 new ignition coils and also put new points in. Set points @ .020" thats what Seloc repair manual calls for. Now I can not get it to run at all?

freddy, no I did not replace the condensers.

tashasdaddy,yes I read the TOP SECRET FILES. I made sure the coils was flush.

Hmm - could be a bad condenser - did you check spark? Did you change plug wires?

lindy46, I just got a spark tester but not had time to check yet. No I did not change plug wires.

Ok guys I got one of them spark tester like tashasdaddy shows in one of his pictures. Set gap about 1/4 inch and got good spark. So whats my next move? And I want to thank all u guys for helping out.

OK I put in some new plugs And it started right up.
