i cant seem to find where to put the "ears" to run this motor for the water intake. All other motors i worked with had holes in the lower unit but this one doesnt. does anyone know specifics on this?

Your outboard has one water intake inside the exhaust tube near the prop, and another on the side of the lower unit. Nobody has bothered to make any sort of hose hookup for those engines. It's annoying, but a heavy-duty plastic barrel, like those made by Rubbermaid work just fine.
One tip: Buy a drain assembly for a Coleman cooler at a good hardware store and install it on the barrel's side, near the bottom. It really makes it easier to drain water from the barrel.
