motor wont shut off

have 1968 55hp evinrude that wont shut off when I turn the key off. shifter seems to be allrigt. loses juice to contacts from black and white wire when i turn off key but still wont quit running . what could the problem be

In all probability, the small blocking diode between the ignition switch and the shift switch is shorted or missing. Either case would allow the charging system to provide voltage via the "I" terminal of the ignition switch.

Another scenario would be that you have something wired wrong.
