ty, i did that it went good except the motor only turns one way, the interior metal cable comes right out of the cabling, i dont think its supposed to do that, guess I need a new system?

Sounds like you aren't getting it locked into the helm correctly, it will pull but not push, are we sure this is the correct cable for the helm?

The previous owner may have bought a new cable but it wasn't the right one and couldn't hook it up, they can be alittle difficult to seat right.

actually it was the cable that was on the boat for a long time, somehow it will push the bar on the motor, but will not pull it back, the metal srew type cable inside the plastick casing pulls right out, should it not be attached to the bar thats attached to the motor, I think because its been sitting out in the cold for 2 yrs and not been used, it may have rusted off???

Yes, the steering cable should have a flat end at the motor and the stering arm has a threaded end that goes ointo that hole.

If there is no end on the cable you are certainly in for a new one.

I had assumed that it was pushing out from the helm.
