Hi everyone,
New here and hope you can help me.
Bought a Mariner 75 oil injection, don't know the year but it is quite old as it has the wrap round cover like the mercury.
Cut a long story short i ran it without checking the impellor or the tellatale (numpty i know), anyways the engine cut out after a while. Left it alone for a week or 2 then changed the impellor.

To start the engine now you have to give it lots of revs in neutral, kicking water out so that is good.
Thing is it sounds lumpy and as soon as you drop the revs it just dies.

Have been told to check the coils and the plugs and ht leads.

Now have checked the engine for signs of overheating but the paint seems to be in order with no noticeable bubbling.

Anyone else shed any light as to what may be causing this.

have you tried running a compression check
there is a possibility that the piston rings were damaged

No i havent, going down to see the boat tomorrow for a few days, will see if i can find someone local to have a look. Think i will have to trail it back home though as boatyards are a bit slim where it is stored.

Is it worth checking plugs,coils etc do you think.
