Okay,I am talking about motors made from 1988 to about 1991. If you compare Yamaha with Evinrude and Johnson(even if I am an OMC guy
when it comes to motors,I would accept Yamaha as a second choice),
which would you prefer?

Yammys are good engines, but JohnnyRudes are like family around The Hideout.

What engine size are you comparing? The smaller Johnnyrudes are everywhere, and parts are pretty much instantly available for them. I don't know about the Yamahas in the same power ranges.

In my experience, the early Yamaha engines were not as suitable for saltwater use. My in-laws had two Yamahas in the '80's and they both had very rusty fasteners after a short time being used in saltwater. The newer Yamahas do not seem to have this problem.

that period, Yammy were still the new kid on the block, OMC's were proven motors.

I am comparing motors in the 25 to 50 HP range,...two stroke, tiller steer
models. Judging from your question,I am thinking I should stick with good
ole 'JohnnyRude since you have stated you don't know much about the
Yamaha motors in that HP range.

The boat and motor will be used in fresh water lakes. So I am not
worried about saltwater corrosion.

Well said,my friend! I should stick with JohnnyRudes and forget about Yamaha
then. Now it is just a matter of trying to find a Lund or Sea Nymph boat(14 to
16 ft.)with anyone of the two motors on it's transom. Boatwise,I want to
stick with Lund,...but as I have said before,...and I will keep on saying it,...Sea Nymph would be a very acceptable second choice. Crestliner might
be a third choice.

Don't turn your nose up at a Starcraft, either. They're good boats, solid, and very seaworthy.

In fact, have a look at this one in your area:

Though I have not mentioned Starcraft initially,...I have thought about giving them some consideration,...but that does not guarantee I will buy one. I am
not as familiar with them as I am Lund and Sea Nymph, though.
