Can anyone point me to an on-line tutorial for changing the t-stats and poppet on my 1999 yamaha 250hp ox66 ?
I always pay to have the work done, but want to tackle this job myself. Can't be hard right?
Anything out there with diagrams, words of wisdom, part #s, etc?

On my OX66, the thermostats are on the top of each cylinder bank. Get new gaskets too. The Yamaha book gives torque specs. The poppit is pretty easy too, located below the sealed electronics with about an inch wide tube connected to it. I only had to remove one wire harness support to get at it. Get a new grommet for that too.

Re: Poppet and T-Stat DIY replace

on the 3.1L blocks the T-stats are located at the top of the block just aft of the flywheel cover.
the pressure valve is on the lower stbd side of the exhaust cover.
when you remove the valve grommet, clean the pocket and replace the grommet with a new one.
make sure you dont push the grommet inside the cover :)
I retrieve 6 or 7 a year
if you do manage to push it in, quit and post about it and I can talk you through the retreival.
2.6L blocks are similar but the t-stats are located on the head.
your 250 is a 3.1L block.
OX66 was made in both 3.1L and 2.6L
