Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a 1969 Evinrude 40hp Selectric Shift model #40973R that they would send to me, please? A friend of mine was given this motor and doesn't know if the motor is worth putting any money into it or not but he has to get it started first and says the wiring is in terrible shape.

I would also be interested in that wiring diagram, mine is a 69 40hp lark
I have a round black plug at the motor. I have both sides of the plug and I'm going to have to rewire the motor. luckly the only good wires are to the lower unit for the magnetic clutches and they ohm out good. The wires I would like identified are
yellow
violet/white tracer
tan
green
blue
grey
I also have a large red wire and orange wire,(about 10 gauge)

Me too I have a 1966 80 hp. I can't figure out the ignition switch....which wire goes where? Thanks! Bill

Selectric shift 1969 40 hp wiring 40973R (I can't account for other models)

18 ga yellow? (maybe dirty white -solenoid to ignition (starter wire)
18 ga violet/white tracer - Auto choke wire
18 ga tan - temp sensor wire
18 ga dark green - Forward gear (gearcase to control panel)
18 ga dark blue - Reverse gear (gearcase to control panel)
18 ga grey - OMC Tach wire (from cut out switch ground screw)
10 ga red - solenoid to ammeter
10 ga orange - Battery terminal of regulator to ammeter
2x black - magneto wires (magneto cutout switch to ign switch)

I have the diagram but don't have a way of scanning it. I will try later.
